Over the past several years I have had numerous requests and many visitors in our shop to look at the unique vessel named "Redwing". She was originally designed by Howard Chappelle and the design was modernized by the noted Naval Architect Karl Stambaugh of CMD Designs LLC. in Severna Park, MD.
We are proud to offer this boat in our program and she can be built with a variety of configurations. We offer both the traditional flat bottom design for backwater exploring as well as a dead rise hull for heavier water. She can be built at 18'-6", 19'-6"' or 20'-6" or at 21'. Lofting is required on this design but not difficult and you will build her from the lofting board up.
She can be powered with Electric, Outboard, or Inboard power.
We have won several awards with our designs. In 2003 we were awarded "Best Launch" with our Open Launch version named "Louise" at the Boston Antique and Classic Boat festival. At the 2002 WoodenBoat Show in Rockland ME the "Louise: was featured in an article in the Bangor Daily News. One of our 18'-6'' Versions is now residing at the Mystic Seaport Museum.
Feel free to contact me if you would like to build this wonderful boat.
The following photos are some examples of the various designs that we have built. Interior arrangements can be designed to suit your specific needs and I am sure you will enjoy designing the particulars that will make your boat truly your own. We build this boat with BS 1088 Okoume on mahogany frames and recommend this method over the stitch and glue design.
For those who choose to tackle this project I can guarantee you will not be disappointed with your finished product.
Reserve your time early on this design due to her size and duration of time to build.
